The SCVAC meeting was held at Ewell Court with Epsom & Ewell Harriers hosting. At 6.30pm there were three K&P women – Joan Trimble, Caroline Jeffcote and I. DB announced the start of the women’s hammer throw but with Camilla ill and no over 50 throwers present we had nobody to fill this event. So….Caroline and I made a hasty decision to have a go to the amusement of Tony and the rest of the throwing teams. Fortunately for me Susanne Dietrich arrived and took over the over 50 age category but that left Caroline to throw for the very first time, advised by all those present between throws. I must add that Susanne did the long jump, which she won, and hammer throw at the same time, alternatively of course. The discus was also a debut event for Caroline and she earned the team 7 points with a throw of 13.34m, well done Caroline! Avelline did well in the pole vault also scoring the team 7 points while using a pole that was too long and heavy for her. This event is also new to Avelline and she is mastering it well.
Swiftly after Susanne’s long jump and hammer throw came the 200m. Yours truly ran the A race while Susanne ran the B race, both in the over 35 age category while Joan ran in the over 50 age group as there was no over 60 age group race. Twenty minutes later Liz Richardson, Avelline Deighton and I ran in the 800m, another twenty minutes later Liz and I ran in the 3000m which was swiftly followed by the 4 x 400m relay which we came 2nd place to Epsom. The relay team consisted of Joan, Avelline, Susanne and Liz.
It was a busy evening with only a few of K&P veteran women but with team spirit we managed to hold onto 2nd place to Epsom & Ewell Harriers. Well done team!
Our next meeting will be Monday 29th June at Walton.
